The Christian life on earth is spiritually understood. The Spirit seeks to regularly remind me of that, 1 Corinthians 2:11-14, James 4:5. Jesus lived by the life of His Father, communicating spiritual thoughts in spiritual words that those with ears to hear heard.
A good God and bad wealth
Luke 15:1-10 Heavenly people trump earthly wealth The tax collectors and nonreligious Jews were remaining close enough to Jesus to listen to Him speak, Luke 15:1. The religious Jews, that being those in leadership, began to grumble among themselves at the behavior of Jesus. The leaders didn’t believe it was a good thing for Jesus to spend His time with people they viewed as unconcerned about the ways of God, Luke 15:2. Therefore, Father had an opportunity to speak to them about God’s economy in life (Luke 15:3), and the He did through the...

As we are celebrating Christmas, the First Advent of Jesus, I am coming to better understand something — the connection of the First Advent to the Second Advent of Jesus. This connection is meant to impact everyone who lives in between. The First Advent God spoke through the prophets of the Old Testament to tell us there would be a First Advent, a baby was to be born, a son was to be given, Isaiah 9:6 (note the son was given because He existed eternally before the baby was born). The First Advent was about plainly making the Father...

Excerpt from the Introduction: James is good news. When I think about James, I think this is a guy to whom Christendom has not given near enough credit. I didn’t have the context for the...

Jesus and the Law of Liberty In Matthew 17:24-27 we have a good example of Jesus living by the law of liberty, that which is going on inside of the believer through the Spirit of God, James 1:25, 4:10 – the giving of the message from God, James 1:19-21. On the basis of Exodus 30:13-14, every Jewish male twenty years of age and older must pay an annual tax that was used to maintain the temple. The tax was one half shekel, equal to two Greek drachma, as was described in this passage, Matthew 17:24. The tax authorities came to Peter and asked...

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please,” Galatians 5:16-17. While at the grocery late this afternoon, a young man and woman in their early to mid-twenties was in line in front of me. There was only one line open for checkout, so I fell into place behind these folks, who were also behind some other folks. I had in my hands...
